Bush Regeneration Volunteer |
Time required: Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 9:00am to 2:00pm
Location: Oxford Falls, Sydney
House with No Steps is a leading provider of quality residential, employment and ancillary services to people with disabilities throughout NSW, ACT and Queensland. We are committed to innovation, continuous improvement and building strong relationships.
The bush regeneration group works in primary bush regeneration removing noxious weeds in the Oxford Falls Area. By providing a safe, calm environment with little distractions, bush regeneration work meets the particular needs of our supported employees.
We are looking for a volunteer to provide supervision and support for one employee, enabling us to continue this unique and valuable employment service.
The main duties would be:
- Companion to our employee while performing his duties
- Cutting noxious weeds
- Piling cuttings in neat groups for collection
- Poisoning noxious weeds after cutting
- Mulching
- Planting and maintenance of plants
- Learning about the different needs of the employees and how they prefer to be supported
- Providing attentive supervision and support to the employees
- Ensuring use of Personal Protective Equipment
- Working alongside our staff as a cooperative team member.
Essential Criteria:
- A basic level of fitness; be able to bend and pick up branches and perform other moderate manual handling tasks.
- A high level of patience and a calm approach
- An ability to learn about and deal with challenging behaviours, such as shouting, bad language, repetitive behaviours, resistance.
- You may also have a passion for gardening and working outdoors, but this is not essential
