Help Alex and many more children like him get the care they need to fulfil their most beautiful dreams
House with No Steps is trying to raise $185,532 to help fund essential services that hundreds of children and adults with a disability depend on – and we need your help.
Please donate today, and help ensure children like Alex continue to get the quality care they need to realise their dreams.
You’ve probably met dinosaur-mad kids before, but it’s unlikely you’ve ever met one as knowledgeable as 11-year-old Alex - the young star of our video below.
For as long as Alex can remember, he’s dreamed of becoming a paleontologist. However, until recently, he didn’t dare believe something that wonderful could really happen to him.
You see, Alex has both Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). As a result, the noises, lights and movement of everyday life can overwhelm him.
When even a quick trip to the supermarket leaves you trembling, and making friends feels like climbing a mountain, it’s little wonder Alex had seen nothing but loneliness and disappointment when he looked in the mirror.
Thankfully, that’s not what Alex’s mum saw, and nor did the team of carers at the local House with No Steps quality respite care centre – one of the key services we need your help to fund today.
They saw a clever and capable boy, who, with the right support, had every chance of fulfilling his dreams.
Which is why they have worked tirelessly for the past six years to fill Alex with self-confidence, and to gently encourage him to discover for himself the amazing things he’s capable of.
Every month, our carers take Alex from the respite centre out on exciting outings his parents could never manage on their own.
With friendship and fun, they are teaching Alex that the world can be a joyful place, that there are people who understand him and that he is more than capable of looking after himself.
As a result, Alex has begun to believe that his dinosaur dreams can come true. And our respite care team fully agree – so long as Alex continues to receive the support he needs to blossom.
Today, we’re asking friends like you for help to finish what we’ve started with Alex – and to offer quality care to many more children and adults like him across NSW.
Giving children like Alex quality care at the right time can make all the difference. It can turn despair into hope and frustration into fulfilment.
It’s incredibly important – but it can also be expensive.
In fact, to provide just one child like Alex with a weekend of quality respite care costs us at least $400.
With dozens of children needing quality respite care, the costs quickly mount up. To provide quality support, tailored to each individual’s needs, we rely heavily on the kindness of the communities we serve.
Help Alex and many more children like him get the care they need to fulfil their most beautiful dreams.
