Vanda and Bob Johnston, from Bowral are the surprised new owners of a luxury penthouse in Kiama after they won the biannual House With No Steps Art Union. “I’ve been supporting the House With No Steps for I don’t know how long and I usually buy the tickets and forget about them,” Mrs Johnston said. “I’ve sort of never won anything but for some reason, this is uncanny, I wrote the draw date in my diary this time. When House With No Steps rang and said you’ve won, I thought it was a joke.” Mrs Johnston laughed and laughed on being told she had won the charity’s raffle and took some convincing that it was for real.
Mrs Johnston said she and her husband would use the beautiful apartment as a seaside escape. “Of course, the family will be able to enjoy it too for a little while. I can’t wait for my little girls, my granddaughters to come down!” she said. The Johnstons sent a bottle of Moët champagne to Brook Crowley, who drew the winning ticket on July 9, as a token of their appreciation.
