House With No Steps (HWNS) are launching a new volunteer program offering the opportunity for volunteers to meet people supported by HWNS and help them to fulfill their personal aspirations.

The Wollongong Hawks are one group who have embraced the initiative and come on board. They will be exploring how the Hawks and HWNS can work together such as the opportunity for fans with a disability to participate in setting up the Hawks home games. Through this program people with a disability will be able to connect with their local community and have a valued role within their favourite sporting club. The Hawks themselves will also be able to enjoy the extra pairs of hands and the opportunity to make some new acquaintances.

HWNS is looking for more volunteers to connect with the people we support and provide skills and experience across a variety of areas. In particular we are interested in hearing from volunteers who have particular hobbies or interests such as fishing, walking, photography or art or even those interested in building a friendship through activities such as going out for a coffee.

For those in the Wollongong Region NSW who are interested in volunteering, we invite you to come along to an information session and meet the Hawks at the North Beach Novotel, Admirals Room on 7 September.
