Connecting
HWNS offers a diverse range of community and leisure programs and activities that enable people with disabilities to enjoy life, make friends and become active members of their local community.

Participants range from children in early intervention programs, school leavers in Transition to Work programs, community participation programs, young adults in our Live It Up! programs, through to mature aged clients in semi-retirement programs. Our ongoing commitment to ‘Connecting' underpins these programs by providing services in the community, establishing community partners and utilising community resources. Our community partnerships are vital to the success of the community based programs we provide.
Our connections with local, state, and national support networks and the connections formed by clients and employees within their communities have established a strong collective supportive force. This strength has been used to further the interests of people with disabilities through the fostering of valuable, respectful and responsive relationships.

HWNS appreciates that NSW, QLD and the ACT comprise many culturally diverse communities. We have continued our work to develop sound and mutually rewarding connections with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. We consult with identified local CALD communities, Community Leaders, Spiritual Leaders and Elders of religious groups to ensure that CALD families and communities are involved in our service and programs and have input into the design and choice of programs we offer.

HWNS has established respectful relationships with Aboriginal communities, demonstrating a willingness to share, learn and negotiate. We acknowledge that Aboriginal people are the owners and custodians of their knowledge and culture and should always be consulted when aspects of Aboriginal history and culture are being incorporated into a service. Consultation is an ongoing process that benefits all participants equally in helping to ensure that Indigenous perspectives are incorporated into the service.
