Where and when the NDIS rollout is happening.

NDIS rollout

The NDIS was initially launched in July 2013 in four trial site locations, followed by another three in mid-2014.

It’s planned that by 2020, the NDIS rollout will be complete across Australia. If the scheme hasn’t been launched in your area yet, it’s just a matter of time – and in the meantime, your current government-funded disability services will continue as usual.

Where were the NDIS trial sites:

  • Hunter area, NSW
  • Barwon area, Victoria
  • South Australia (for children 0-13 years)
  • Tasmania (for young people 15-24 years)
  • The ACT
  • Barkly region, Northern Territory
  • Western Australia (Perth Hills region, Cockburn-Kwinana area, and two sites operating under the WA My Way initiative)

What’s happening now?

The NDIS is now progressively being rolled out in all states and territories (except Western Australia where the approach to full scheme is being finalised). It’s expected that by 2020, the NDIS will be fully up and running across all Australian states and territories.
