It’s been a busy month for our disability services in far north Queensland celebrating with many activities including Disability Action Week (14 to 20 September 2014).

Our Townsville service got involved in the Inclusive Communities Festival with a fun-filled afternoon of face painting, an animal farm and a special showing under the stars of Disney’s smash hit Frozen.

House with No Steps was also a major partner of a children’s respite camp in Mackay. Hosted by Whitsunday Anglican School, the Mackay Children’s Holiday Camp was held on 21-23 September 2014 for young people with a disability from the Mackay-Whitsunday region.

Twelve boys and girls attended for the three days and two nights and were supported by Year 11 and 12 student companions. The camp is free of charge and gave campers the opportunity to participate in activities such as swimming, playing games, arts & crafts, African drumming, movies and much more.

Student companions were also supported by doctors, nursing staff and adult volunteers. As well as providing an exciting holiday for the campers, the camp also aims to provide respite for families and carers of children with a disability.
