Flood appeal: help our Townsville customers get back on their feet

Donate and help us support people with disability who are seriously impacted by the floods in Townsville

February 7, 2019

The Townsville floods are a ‘perfect storm’ – Homes without power, people evacuated, and the added impact of disability. House with No Steps (now Aruma) has urgently had to relocate 9-out-of-10 of our supported independent living sites, more than 20 adults and children with disability have had to be moved. And many of our support team are themselves cut-off, with a dozen of them having their own homes flooded.

We are urgently flying in additional support workers from other parts of Australia to assist. They’re relieving exhausted local staff, supporting our customers to ensure their health and well-being, preparing food and starting to collect clothing, furniture etc to distribute to those who’ve lost the lot.

In many instances homes and specialist equipment has been so badly damaged there are beyond repair. So the search will be on for new premises when things get back to normal, leaving people with high support needs in temporary housing for prolonged periods.

Please donate and help people with a disability who are seriously impacted by the Townsville flood disaster
