We’re is honoured to have been chosen through the Victorian Government’s tender process to take on responsibility for 67 supported living and respite services across Victoria.

Established in 1962, we have a long and proud history of supporting people with disability. We provide disability services to around 5000 people across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT in regional, rural and metropolitan areas.

Andrew Richardson, CEO, said the organisation has a strong human rights and person-centred approach.

“We are committed to ensuring people with disability are given the respect and opportunities they deserve. We feel very privileged to be able to support people with disability in more places and in new and better ways.”

“We will draw on our experience of successfully transferring NSW Government services to us in 2017. We will work closely with all of the people involved in this transfer; people with disability, families, carers and staff. Our priority is to ensure continuity of service and a smooth transition,” he said.

We understand that a change like this will create many questions for those involved and has plans to build strong working relationships throughout the course of this transfer process. We will regularly communicate with everyone involved in this transfer and our website will always be updated with the latest information.

We also recognise the importance of engaging early and regularly with the Health and Community Services Union so that they are up to date with our approach and can continue to be a useful source of information to their members.

House with No Steps (now Aruma) is working closely with the Victorian Government to make sure the transfer process is thorough and comprehensive. We are pleased that the process includes accountability and performance measures that relate to quality and safety conditions. We are all aligned in wanting everyone involved to be secure and confident that the safety and wellbeing of residents and participants is paramount.

Staff that will transfer  include house supervisors, operations managers (the office-based manager who has the most day to day contact with group homes) and direct care staff (full-time, part-time and casual). We know and appreciate the trusted and valued relationships that exist between residents and their existing staff.
