HWNS welcomes transferring NSW disability services to NGOs

House with No Steps welcomes the transferring of NSW disability services to NGOs

January 26, 2016

Today the NSW Government announced that it will transfer all existing government run disability services to the NGO sector by 2018.

House with No Steps supports and welcomes the transition. Non-government organisations such as House with No Steps currently deliver approximately 60% of disability services within NSW. The announcement endorses and reinforces the Government’s confidence in existing disability service providers.

HWNS Managing Director Andrew Richardson said, “This move by the NSW Government is extremely positive and will strengthen existing community organisations such as House with No Steps.

“House with No Steps is one of the largest disability service providers in NSW. We have over 50 years experience offering innovative and high quality supports to people with a disability. Given our capabilities we hope to work closely with the NSW government throughout this process.

“This transition will open opportunities for a wider, more diverse market which will increase choice and control for people with a disability and their families. Having been an active supporter of the NDIS we believe this is a natural evolution that will ensure continuity and variety of supports for people with a disability.

“We look forward to working closely with the NSW Government, the National Disability Insurance Agency and other organisations to ensure that quality outcomes for people with a disability remain the dominant focus of this exciting change.”
